Telangana, SPS Rathore, Defence Land Scam,The Commonwealth Games Imbroglio, 26/11,The Nano Natak at Singur so on and so forth....
Mayawati, Amar Singh, Sharad Pawar, Mamta Bannerjee, The BJP Brass, The Congress with its Spine Flu....the endless dramatis personae that this country is blessed with, who go a long way in making our lives the theater of the absurd with their shenanigans and then tell us what we must think to boot...
A media that is infested with people only too willing to help them perpetuate this miasma that ridicules our intelligence.
Dhatura is an effort to recognize these misogynists in various fields of endeavour that abrogate the common good for their warped agendae.
Let us give the Fruits to these Brutes.

The Humble Shoe Humbles - The power of a Symbol

Amazing what a peaceful protest can acheive when it creates a simple yet powerful symbolism!!!!
Isn't that what Dhatura aims for?
The 1984 riots were a serious act of genocide leaving 3000 defenceless Indians dead, more families rendered asunder and perhaps many young childdren orphaned or rudderless.
The real Culprits of the Carnage still roam scot free, barring those who managed to reach their grave before justice. They were lucky television hadn't struck then. There is encouraging progress in riots of recent origin where people closer to the epicenter have found justice knocking on their door.
And yet our leaders and opinion makers busy themselves trying to put partisan spin on something so horrific in the hopes that two wrongs could make theirs right!
This brings us to an important question - Can a leader really escape responsibility for the deeds he may have instigated wittingly or unwittingly and more importantly, should he?
Can we allow this? Is this how civilized we are?
Come 'throw-a-shoe' and make a difference.

The quality of discourse, disposition and discretion in the Public space have been in erosion on a daily basis.

Political correctness prevents us from identifying the truly tasteless in politics, at work, government, justice, entertainment, sport, business , fashion and every other domain.

Just like bad money drives good money out of circulation, the hubris drives out the substantial.

Stark evidence of such euphemistic niceness is aplenty in our neighbourhood in South Asia, and indeed in our own public space here in India.

Let us recognize these misogynists and destructive influences.

Common Name : DATURA, JIMSON WEED, STINK WEED, MAD APPLE, THORN APPLE STRAMONIUM, APPLE THORN, DHATURA TATULA, DATURA SEEDS )

It is Narcotic. Its young fruits are sedative and intoxicating.


Rationale:

The Dhatura awards are instituted to recognise human acts of exceptional foolishness, indiscretion, tastelessness and vulgarity in the public domain in the course of public life with or without the use of Dhatura - this exceptionally intoxicating narcotic, whose indiscriminate use would otherwise be necessary for any thinking and conscientious person to act similarly as our nominees model.

They seem to live by the axiom Fools rush in where angels fear to tread.

We have chosen this mythically potent symbol as appropriate for such extreme human misdemeanours.
The Awards are expected to be announced twice a year by June 30 and Dec.31 each year, in view of the overwhelming propensity to throw up worthy candidates in Indian Public Life.
The first set of awards are to be announced on June 30,2009. Nominations would be open until 1200Hrs on the day of the announcements being due.
